It’s appropriate today to put on my old reporter’s hat and consider the year that was. I think that was one of the things that I enjoyed about newspapers was looking back on the year, and reading some of the year-end articles that The Associated Press would put out this week.
This year was an interesting one in which several news stories would easily make No. 1 overall in a normal year. But, 2010 is and was not a normal year.
So, from the home office in Wilmore, Ky., here are my thoughts on the top 10 news stories of 2010.
10 – Elena Kagan Confirmed as Supreme Court Associate Justice.
9 – Arizona Enacts Controversial Illegal Immigration Law.
8 – Polish Government Crippled Due to April Plane Crash Killing President, 96 Others
7 – Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell Overturned.
6 – January Earthquake in Haiti Kills 220,000.
5 – Chilean Miners Rescued After Almost 70.
4 – WikiLeaks Releases Several U.S. Government Secrets
3 – Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Causes Havoc Throughout Spring
2 – GOP Wins Midterm Election; Take Control of House of Representatives
1 – Health Care Overall Approved.
